Premier Drum Kit Shops
Premier are based in England in London and are one of the oldest producers of drums, tracing their lineage back to 1922. The company was created by Albert Della Porta and George Smith with the intention of producing drum kits for wholesalers, but fairly soon they discovered that their craftsmanship was of such a high quality that they could produce drums under their own name. Premier also created high quality symphonic percussion, marching percussion and cymbals in addition to their regular drum kits. The Beat Boom period of the 60's saw Premier pushed into the limelight, they were awarded the Queens Award to Industry in 1966. The next decade saw Premier invest in a new purpose built factory in order to meet increased demand. In 1983 the Della-Porta family resigned from the companies board and a mangement buyout quickly followed. The late 1980's saw Premier merge with Yamaha and in 1992 the company was taken over by Tony Doughty. In 1997 Premier were sold to the Verity Group before being bought out by another British consortium a few years later. This constant changing of hands of the ownership of Premier has meant that in the past quality has been variable, however all quality control issues have now been sorted thanks to a new factory in Taiwan created in the early 2000's.
